Sudpsuez Antique Egyptian Khayamiya Cotton Tent Hanging
This exquisite Egyptian Khayamiya appliqué wall hanging is hand-crafted in rich red, blue, and cream cotton fabric, and dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Elaborately patterned and often presented in vibrant colors, Khayamiya appliqués were traditionally applied to the interior of extravagantly decorated tents. In its construction it Khayamiya’s resemble quilts, and are constructed of three layers – a heavy backdrop fabric, with a background fabric hung on top, and an elaborate appliqué over the top. The textile is divided into eight panels, each adorned with geometric patterns and Arabic script.
